Hyponik have posted a stream of the avroARROW Studies in Form EP (out today) as part of their First Listen series. Head over there to check it out… then make sure you pick up this really beautiful debut NOREMIXES EP from the Montreal-based producer at your favorite store.
After a string of self releases via Bandcamp, avroARROW joins the NOREMIXES family with his first EP for the label entitled, Studies in Form. The sound of avroARROW (born Mike Jones) is difficult to define and pigeonhole, even in the world of ever-evolving micro-genres. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, but now residing in Montreal, Quebec, he crafts electronic music that is equal parts sound collage, noise and ambient. Some works pull heavily from hiphop while others could be, dare we say, vaporwave.
Studies in Form definitely leans on the more ambient side of avroARROW’s output. The EP’s textures evolve and develop like one long thought. You can now pre-order the release via our bandcamp page and you’ll receive the track, “Form 5”, instantly. Preview it below.
Rudi Zygadlo (aka Golden Ratio Syrup) was on Vic Galloway’s BBC Radio Scotland show earlier this month performing live and discussing the projects he’s been working on, including Golden Ratio Syrup. Check the performances throughout the show here.
And here’s another link to click in case you missed the Golden Ratio Syrup / Cut Tongues film for ‘A Screaming Comes Across the Sky’ when it premiered the end of last month.
Complex UK have premiered another track from the new Beck-Fields EP, Hone, entitled “Sun Under Sea”. In their own words, ‘Sun Under Sea’ “continues [Beck-Fields’] exploration of softly-sung vocals and gentle synth washes against frenetic, but sparingly used, IDM beats for a mesmeric listen.” The EP is released tomorrow, October 9th, and can be pre-ordered on our Bandcamp page.

We are really excited to announce the 2nd release of 2015 from Wilmington-based duo Beck-Fields! The ‘Hone’ EP was improvised and recorded live with no overdubs the evening of July 29th 2015. The EP finds the duo refining their sound with added vocal presence and immediacy, as well as pushing the complexity of the percussive elements of their music.
The EP is available to pre-order on Bandcamp now. You’ll receive an instant download of ‘Dream Another Way’ (taken from the EP) which you can preview below.
We are thrilled to bring you the premiere of the Cut Tongues & Golden Ratio Syrup ‘A Screaming Comes Across the Sky’ film. Golden Ratio Syrup’s project up until now has been anonymous, but today via Noisey, it was announced that the project is the work of Planet Mu / Mad Decent affiliated producer Rudi Zygadlo! You can read the whole article here.
The artists had this to say about the project.
“This is a highly personal project. The three of us have spent a lot of time together, listening to chamber music and taking certain mind exploding chemicals. The idea to collaborate came from that psychotropic period. We (Cut Tongues) were greatly inspired by Rudi’s piece of music. Our starting point was the piano sequence. Its painfully slow tempo connoted an image of laborious and aimless struggle. We then began to look into Erik Satie, who is explicitly referenced in the composition. Satie was an eccentric, to say the least: he claimed to only eat white food, kept two grand pianos stacked on top of each other, one for storage, and once sentenced himself to death in a letter to a Parisian newspaper. His sense of carnival and penchant for games inspired a whole series of invented sports, a Breugelian human landscape if you will. This is the central idea for the film: life as a meaningless sport with an arbitrary set of rules. And yet we must throw ourselves into it with joyous abandon.” – Cut Tongues & Golden Ratio Syrup
